Menopause is officially defined as 12 consecutive months since your last menstrual period.

Average age: 51 (but can be earlier or later).

Terminology:

Perimenopause = “Around the time” when hormones start to fluctuate.

Menopause = One single day — 12 months after the last period.

Post-menopause = Every year after menopause.

Pre-menopause = Before symptoms begin.

Premature menopause = Under 40

Early menopause = Under 45
